When it's time to replace my Dunlops, I'm going with Metzler's on my Ultra.

It says it's a MU85B1677H whatever the hell that means. I know it's 16in in diameter, but what is the width and height? 160/70?

Dunlops are sized in Metric. I believe the rear tires is equivilent to a 140x16 Front is a 130x16. B is the speed rating. This place has some great pricing with free shipping.

I just wear 'em out and then replace with the ones I want.

Its different with tires, to me anyway..with tires I know that they will be worn out in about a year for the rear and two for the front..

The other mods aren't replacing a consumable item most often, so I just do them when I want to and can afford it....how long would it take to wear out a stock muffler....

I just pulled off my dunlops with 2000 miles just because they had a whitewalls on them. I figured since i was putting on chrome rims i might as well get the new tread now.

I used Metz 880s and now Avon Venom about 500 miles on it and seems like the BEST tire I have ever run.

I'm just about to order my Avon Venom (140/90 16 Biased) from royayers.com for 116.90. I ran these on my last bike and loved 'em! Let's see how this goes!

I did the 880's. Metzler has always made a good tire. What is the difference with Avon tires?

I don't understand it either. I rode my last bike 106k miles through 33 states in all types of weather and terrain, all on D402's, and only had two tense moments relating to traction. These would've been tense on any tire, actually, and in no case did the event cause an accident. These included spirited wet cornering on the Charahala Skyway (NC & TN) while hitting a painted lane marker, and hitting oil on wet pavement in Sturgis (1998). Almost lost it in the latter case, and there were several accidents on that stretch of road.

That said, I do have an issue with the way the newer D402's wear, and have gone to Elite 3's. So far I'm very impressed with the durability and handling of the E3's, although I've had two "squiggles" on wet (rain) painted lane markers while accelerating mildly in a corner. I should just learn to stay away from these things. Anyone else hit these on wet pavement?

Ya know, I really don't think there is a ROCK SOLID tire out there. It's trial and error and because we have so many choices, if we make a switch to something and it works, we stick with it. Once something works out, most just like to stay with it and call it good (Me in this case). I'm sure if I had another brand, I'd be happy too, because most of them out there are GREAT tires. I hope I like the Avon's with the touring bike as much as my old one!
