I think you'll get very few subjective answers here because very few on this forum have owned both. The glides are excellent bikes, I used to have an Eglide Standard and it was very nice. Just wasn't my cup of tea, but a goldwing wouldn't be either. From what everyone says about the 09's new frame it seems like they are going to be very popular.
If you really want some good info, go over to the off topic section and track down bluerose. She has an Ultra and her husband has a Goldwing. You'd probably get some very good information from her.
Easy Question. I have had many Gold Wings in the past but I have ALWAYS had a HD setting next to it.
If you're are into LONG RIDES 2 -up and loaded and never miss a restaurant and enjoy a riding plastic motorcycle. Then Gold Wing may suit you well. How Ever the GW WILL NEVER HAVE ANY SOUL.
Save yourself and go RENT them BOTH and ride the snot out of them and YOU make your choice
Maybe we should take it easy on Goldenboy. He is asking an honest question. Unfortunately, I have never ridden a goldwing. Therefore, I can't give an unbiased evaluation of the two. Hopefully, those of us who HAVE ridden both machines can give a fair and honest evaluation. Even though I would certainly lean toward the Harley, I am also curious about how the goldwing compares.
I traded an '07 Goldwing in on my '08 Road Glide. Looking at the spec sheet, the Wing looks like the superior bike. However, you don't ride a spec sheet. The Wing is a super bike, but it has no character. It's sort of like riding a two-wheeled Honda Civic. I've done multi-day trips on both bikes, and I enjoy riding the Harley MUCH more. Better sound, better looks, and more comfortable (IMO).

I agree with caymen8, I had a 97 goldwing that was a better bike, way faster and smoother than my 07 ultra but I enjoy the HD more.
Do you like apples or oranges, that's pretty much what's up when comparing these two brands and be prepared with a fat load of expendable cash in your wallet if you buy the HD...the joy comes in making it your own, and easier to find it when parked with a bunch of other HD's.
If you want a silky smooth ride that'll put you to sleep and all the creature comforts buy the Honda...if you want to buy a bike with some soul and a piece of Americana...well, you know the one to get.
