Does anyone know if brake cleaner will hurt chrome??
I want to clean my front brakes real good but don't want to hurt the calipers, forks, wheels etc. I would assume as long as you wash it good with soap and water after the brake cleaner it should be fine????????
Brake cleaner will not hurt chrome. It also dries without leaving a residue. In fact I have use both brake cleaner and carb cleaner to remove boot heel rubber from the exhaust pipes. However, I would do my best not to get it on the paint. It won't have an imediate reaction to the paint but is best to wipe it off right away.
I always have at least one case of brake cleaner on hand.
Thanks!! I've been getting a squeek from the front brakes when rolling up to a stop, the pads look good and I keep the bike clean all the time, I just thought it may have some brake dirt in and around the calipers and wanted to spray them down good with brake cleaner and hoped it would stop the annoying squeek.
Ya know... There's been a lot discussed about squealing brakes & I've been meaning to share this for a while.
Back in 2001 someone suggested I try SBS brake pads and use their "pad liners" on the pads backplace(s). Since then, the squealing and squeaking is a thing of the past. The liners are adhesive back rubber-like material that insulate the piston from the back side of the pad. They come 4 to a pack and you use 1 liner per pad - so one pack will do a set of Dresser front brakes.
Even better - SBS pads are CHEAPER thank HD and it has been my experience that they last as long, if not longer.
