Another vote for the J&M antenna's. They perform as well as the stock whips and look a ton better. I had a local CB shop check the SWR on my CB after I put the J&M's on. They said it was a good match with below 2.0 across the channels.
My buddy cut his stock antenna's and he had the same CB shop check his SWR. His SWR was pegged high in the red zone of the meter and they told him if he continued to use his CB he would ruin it. They attempted to tune his CB antanna with no luck. He now has a set of J&M's.
+1 on the J&M's. I have not noticed any difference in reception and they look great.
I live about 40 miles north of Chicago near the Wisconsin state line and the J&M shorties did not work for me at all. I put them on and instantly noticed that I could no longer access radio stations that the stock whips could easily pull in.
J&M will be an exhibitor at a dealership (Uke's) in Kenosha next Monday and I plan on speaking to them and showing them firsthand the difference that I am realizing.
They apparently work for others on this forum, however, I took them off shortly aftter installing them on an '08 Ultra.
I was trying to find a good antenna for my 08 Street Glide so I decided to compare some of the antennas that I have.I had the Tune Trapper in my fairing but it didn't work to my satisfaction.I live at least 40 miles form any radio station so reception is very important for me.I don't know how accurate or technical this test was but it's the only way that I could come up with to see what works best.I installed each antenna and then hit my Search button on my radio to see how many FM stations each antenna would lock on to.Here's what I came up with:
H-D stock antenna(32 3/4") picked up 24 stations.
21" metal antenna picked up 18 stations (I purchased this antenna from my local H-D dealership.I cant' remember who makes it but it's not H-D.)
H-D shorty AM/FM antenna(18 3/4" part #76388-08) picked up 10 stations.
I like how clean my bike looks without an antenna but I'm going to stick with my stock antenna.I will have to use a shorter antenna when I have my back bag(Kuryakyn) on.I hope this helps anyone who wants decent radio reception!
I wanted the same thing so what I did was the same thing . I bought a couple of antennas and hit the scan button and wrote the stations down that came up. All said and done I was not pleased with the money I had spent on antennas so I took a carbon steel TIG welding wire ( I'm a welder ) that is about the same length as the stock antenna and started cutting one inch off at a time and re-scanning until I started loosing stations. I lost 3 stations ( 3 I didnt care about anyway ) before I quit, then I cut my stock antenna off to match. When I was finnished cutting my stock antenna was only 22" long. Good Luck ! By the way you can go by a welding shop and buy a welding ron for a Buck, its worth it.

One thing to remember is that this compairson was done on my Street Glide not an Ultra. My Street Glide mount is about knee high where as the Ultras mount would be closer to chest high. You could put a H-D Shorty antenna on an Ultra and you would still be taller than a Street Glide's stock antenna.I really don't know how much difference the hight would make, but I think it would effect it some.
I picked up a 14" rubber duck antenna from Auto zone.... I get the same stations, for the same distance. But I live in Raleigh, and the terrain is flat, to rolling hills
I just put the tune trapper in my aftermarket fairing, my thoughts are what a waste of money, not much better than a wire running out of the back of the radio that the fairing came with.
