I am a new member and this is my first post so, hello everyone. First of all I have a 07 ultra classic. My problem is, one if the inserts on the inner faring, where the windshield is screwed in has pulled out. I can push it back in (not easily) but eventually it starts pulling out again and the screw loosens, sometimes causing me to loose the screw. Does anybody have a solution to this? Your help is appreciated.
That sucks! If you can get it all the way out, you could try to coat it with epoxy and press it back in. Its probably vibrating loose from broken faring brackets, you might want to check em'.
The answer is at the Harley dealer! Part # 16585-96 is a thread in replacement for the knurled press in inserts. Works great and for ever! It will take 3.
I have been using blue locktite on the faring screws since I got my bike, the key is not to use alot, I lost about 3 shield screws NO MORE.
I put a small line of it down one side of the bolt that is all.
Buy extra screws and replace them as they come out.
Over tightening them will make the metal sleeves pull out. Using lock-tite on the screws can make the sleeves 'spin' and become loose when or if you remove the screws again. If you use lock-tite.....use a half a drop (then wipe most of it off! LOL)
I have repaired my sleeves using JB weld and they have held up so far.
If they come loose again, I will go with the Halrey repair kit.

Thank you
Like the 2nd poster said, you can use an epoxy to anchor them in there. I had this same problem about 2-3 months ago, and considered the replacement Harley parts, but did a late night Walmart run for some JB weld, mixed it up and applied it, let it dry over night and refastened the screws and rode the next morning...held better than the factory setup ever did.
