Can't find the thread on how to replace those ferrules that screw into the inner fairing to hold the windshield. Read a thread about it, then thinking that I won't strip one....well guess what I did yesterday. Any help to the link or how-to is appreciated
that's good to know. heading to Lowes to pick up a couple....assuming they are the same as what HD offers...and half as cheap.
what technique did you use to thread them in?
He didn't mean that you can pick the ferrules up at Lowes or anywhere else.. he said he didnt need to use a tap to put the new ones in.. You need to get the inserts from your harley dealer.. they are only about $2 each.. You use a 1/4 20 bolt with a nut on it to put them in..

Kyote, I understand what he meant' I just read on the earlier provided link that you can get these ferrules at Lowes for less than what HD wants for one. But if I can't find them at Lowes then HD it is. Not going to use the tapper.
picked up a couple of brass ferrules at Lowes. $1.63 for 2 compared to $1.95 for 1 at HD. Now my question is, I have read where the slotted end of the ferule should go in the inner fairing first. Doesn't make sense to me why, when that slot is needed to drive it in. can someone enlighten me why slotted end goes first and how does it get threaded in with out that slot. Common sense would tell you that the slot is to used to thread it in the fairing.

The slot goes in first. Do not use the slot to screw it in. Don't ask me how I know. Double nut a screw to insert the ferrule.
