I would love to see some stats from Harley on this. I've heard 50K and I've heard 12K but Harley has made a lot of Tour bikes since 2000.

It's rare but some fail early for no operant reason.
My friends completely stock 2003 Ultra had a complete cam chain tensioner failure at 23,000 miles.
It was fixed under warranty while on a road trip but it cost him three days of a week vacation.[:@]
I have posted the results of my 40K "look see" on the Cam Gear thread. I'm not a happy boy right now. The tensioners were worn but not to bad. The CAMS are SHOT. Read more on the other Thread. Anybody with a 99-00 Twin Cam should pay attention and cuss HD for their attitude about us spending 18000 to 20000 on their 40,000 mile TOURING bikes. I've gone above and beyond on my service (used HD oil and went to HD syn when it came out in all holes. This is a Harley problem that they knew about. Shame on them today.
I was going to replace this when I switch to andrews CAMS. Anyone know the part number for the inner and outer Cam chain tensioners? I can't find it on site.

Well I got mine back this weekend along with the take off parts.
The camchain tensioners had 65K on them when the new geardive cams went in.
The front one still looked suprisingly good but the back one was toast.
Love the new S&S 570G cams, slighty lopey at idle but not nasty and they smooth out with just a little throttle.
I can hear the geardrive but it's not loud and with a new oil pump and Baisley spring all the valve train clatter it had before is gone.
I also had SE 10.25 95" cast psitons and Baisley heads installed along with Dyna ignition and Rinehart true duals.
Dyno tune/ break in 105/109
I gave the latest info on my situation under the "Cam Gears" thread. You riders with 99-00 Twin Cams need to have this looked at before it comes apart and caused a total trashing of your 88.
