Whine
iclick,
My '08 EG with the original stock tires whines as well.
The whine has been there for at least 6,000 miles, maybe 12,000 miles, with no change. In my case, I hear the whine when I lean into a turn. It doesn't matter if the turn is left or right. I will notice the whine when I start a ride. The whine either decreases as things warm up or I become deaf to it.
My bike has close to 14,000 miles on it now. If my whine was a bearing, I think that the bearing would have been toast by now. I lean towards tires as being my problem.

At the speeds your mentioning, hearing that whine. I had a similar occurrence in the back as well. I have metzlers and am hearing that noise. But then there was another time that I recall. On my belt pulley. I had purchased one of those chrome pulley covers. They mount to the pulley using only the 5 bolts that hold the pulley on. At the speeds you posted. On my scoot. I heard a whining noise. Turns out. That at those speeds. The chrome cover resonates. There's no way to attach that cover to the circumference face of the pulley. I used rubber tape and adhered it to the pulley's surface. That stopped the whine.

I had similar symptoms on my 07 SG. I went crazy trying to isolate the noise...but it was more a low-tone "whumpwhumpwhump" sound vs. a whine.... Fast forward - It was the rear wheel bearing...and the third one that month on 07' baggers they had seen with less than 5000 miles.
No problem since.

I'm thinking if it was a wheel bearing it would change tone as you load the wheel differently. E.g., zigzagging or taking a turn vs. vertical. Same situation for tire whine, IMO.

I noticed whine/howl with D402 front tires on my old RK, and as with you only in turns. This is typical tire noise and I never did anything about it since it wasn't an indicator of impending doom.
I and several others had the same symptoms. It turned out to be the output shaft bearing. The dealer rebuilt the tranny with all new bearings under warranty and put in a new shaft. According to them it is a "known" issue but there is no recall on it. I guess not enough have failed. Look for excessive shavings on the tranny drain plug.
A friend says his 2000 EGC does the same thing and has been for 60k miles, so maybe I should just let it whine and see if it gets worse.
Bob one thing I forgot to mention. Before mine really started making noise, I noticed a "clicking" as I backed the bike up. I was unsure if it was a problem or not as I normally have the engine running which masked the noise. I'm not insisting that your problem is the same as mine but I would hate to see it fail after the warranty ran out. BTW I had 35K on the clock when the dealer wrench noticed the shavings. The same dealer has done every service and they are very attentive to problems. They have found three so far I wasn't even sure were problems.
