year of engine and primary case?

Exclamation year of engine and primary case?

does anyone know how to tell the year an engine upper and lower assembly is? would it be by the numbers engraved on each?i know the year of the bike but am suspicious the engine may be older

The serial # is on the left of the lower end. All the parts have # on them that may or may not match part #s. My inner primary had the right #s but the rocker support?? There also are dates casted into the parts. looks like a clock with the year in the middle and little marking indicating the month.

Default engine and primary years

well i have an o5 electraglide,had the comp nut loosen so i grabed the clymer book i have went to the dealer and asked for a new primary case gasget i get home and the gasget is not even close i look at the pics in the book and the 1999/2000 pics look like my primary the 2001 and up look nothing like what i have wondering if the lower end is older than the rest of the bike the vin and the last few numbers on the left side of the engine match but some numbers on the right side lower where u can see when changing the tranny oil are not even close...book wrong and dealer gave wrong gasget or i some some put together pc of chit

The stamped #s on the transmission wont match the rest of the VIN. I'm wandering if someone put a softail-Dyna inner and outer on it? The gasket # you should have gotten is 34901-94C
I also wanted to add that the pics in the Clymer books aren't always right.
