OK everyone likes to mod their bikes to get the performance that puts that mile wide grin on. i am no different i would like to have a bike that sounds good not too loud but a nice rumble and about 100+ ponies with loads of torque. But what about EPA i read that it is all illegal and can result in huge fines, but that there is no enforcement at this time. will this change ? is EPA going to crack down on us someday in the not so distant future?
your thoughts please.
Each town is going to handle this different. Denver has pretty strict sound regulations for motorcycles. I can honestly say with the straight drag pipes on my Chopper I have NEVER been pulled over or ticketed for it. It is really pretty basic, even the loudest exhaust doesn't have to be super loud all the time. Going through neighborhoods and commercial areas I don't open it up. On highways I do. It is my own risk and I accept it.
As long as you can pass your State's safety inpsection you should be all set.
I have never seen the EPA out inspecting bikes or cages.
Things are pretty good in my State so we are still having fun without any concern about the FEDS coming to get us.

The E.P.A. used to do some worthwhile things, clean water for example. But like any other organization they have to do something to justify their existence. Lately they have been trying to get localities to enact unconstitutional exhaust system ordinances. Unconstitiutional because the require only motorcycles to have original equipment exhaust. If they forced that on cars cops would have to crawl under cars to look for a stamp. Denver is NOT enforcing the ordinance contrary to popular mis-information. A lot of Denver cops ride and don't like this any better than we do. Colorado Springs and Golden Co. also enacted it but quit trying to enforce it. Golden's new highly publicized policy is to leave bikes alone unless they are acting stupid. Don't ride dumb in residential areas and I'll bet you'll be fine. Maybe the E.P.A. will find another bandwagon to jump on. Their motive is simply to keep their jobs. They don't give a damn about the public! The good thing is, once they have the ordinance passed their work is done, they can tell their boss "mission accomplished" and the localities will ignore the ordinance unless someone is being obnoxious.

Actually I never claimed Denver police was checking for EPA stickers. I said they are issuing noise ordinance violations, at least this is what the "news" is claiming. As i had stated, in the thousands of miles I've ridden throughout Colorado, I've never had a problem.
