Just put a windshield on my Road King and the buffeting is bad. My head vibrates so much sometimes that it blurs my vision. The wind buffeting sound is terrible, makes the bike sound like it's missing all the time.
I tried that wind deflector that goes between the forks but it didn't help at all. My windshield height is about at the bridge of my nose and I can see over it but would like it about an inch shorter. I notice if I put my hand up above the windshield that the buffeting stops, so I'm not sure I want to cut the windshield down anymore. Anyone have a solution?
I have 2 windshields for my RK, both have been cut down. One to 17" and the other to 11". Neither cause any substantial buffeting. I have the front fork baffle, too. You might want to check the upright angle of the shield and see if you can adjust it back a bit to get more rake and deflection.
I'm having the same problem. The buffeting on mine seems to be from the air flow below. I've been told that my 3/4 helmet is part of the problem. I'm still searching!
Buffeting on RC seems to be pretty common, I have tried several differant windshields, which non seem to help other than a Clearview with recurve and it only helps a little, non of the Harley chrome crap wind deflectors help at all.
I have found that up to 55-60 mph running with everything off is better for me, maybe I'm smokin crack or something be it seem that a good pair of googles works way better.
I had the same problem with the buffeting. There are several threads on the topic. You need to install the fork mounted wind deflector. They are about 60 dollars. The deflector doesn't mount between the fork but mounts on the outside of the fork. One on each side. It worked great for me.
Part of the problem, as with some of the other models is the vacuum that is created by the windshield. It pulls air up over the tank and up towards your head. Try this as a test. While riding, hold you left arm across your chest, palm down. Less buffeting, right? Can you feel the air/wind blowing upwards?
It helps to shorten the windshield a little, along with the recurve on a Clearview shield. The fork baffle and chrome wind deflectors help as well.
Same here. And if I'm in a strong headwind or 3/4 wind, it's maddening. Ditto on the eyeballs rattleing! I have a Nolan 3/4 helmet with flip up shield. Very compfortable but now I wonder if the buffeting is the helmet or lower forks. I'd do the lower fork wind deflectors but they're not very good looking. To me anyway.
Hey You guys with the chrome fork deflectors. Did you install them with the bent end facing forward or toeards the back of the bike. I installed mine facing back because they didn't fit right otherwise but it seems counterintuitive to not deflect the wind outward. ANy thoughts on this?
