Glad you made the right choice! I had an episode 2 months ago went through the whole run of tests. I am very lucky it turned out to be nothing with the heart but due to a med change I had a reaction and thought the old pump was going!
I feel bad for the wife because she is not convinced that I am OK. I have started the whole work out routine again and massive cardio. Doc keeps telling me to make the 6, 7th, and 8th decades it is a must. I tell the wife riding keeps the pressure down too! She tells me stop eating and sell the bike LOL I'd only sell it to get a different one.
At 50 my doc told me it was time for the million mile checkup. I spent two half days at the hospitol doing the cardio stress test, all the blood tests, as well as the snake-in-the-butt routine. While it was a royal pain to go through it, at least now I know where I stand with everything. I lost my Dad when he was only 59 and he was an ex-Marine, hard working, non-drinking, tough guy, and that little bit of plaque did him in.
Guys it is just like helmets, it is up to you, but for one day of discomfort, it is well worth the piece of mind!
I was 38 when I had mine. Had 100%. 90% & 80% blockages on my left ventrical, they fixed the 90% with three stints, they 80% is very low, and not worth trying to stint it, and the 100% has been there a long time and has collateral(sp) arteries so their not too worried about it. I was fortunate enough to be young when it happened and my heart did recover. I do workout, but differently now, alot more cardio. Watch your trans fats, and your saturated fats, keep the BP where it needs to be, and exercise the right way, and if you smoke, quit. It is life changing.
Glad you made the right decision. My next door neighbor and fellow Harley rider didn't do that a couple of months ago. He had the pains and all the symptoms and disregarded the advice from a couple of us... said he would go to the doctor "tomorrow. Next morning, the "tomorrow" he insisted on, his son found him dead in bed. He was only 56.
Sparkey, get yourself a treadmill and use it every day for a brisk walk. Change your diet to the medateraniun(spelling?) diet. I was like you, and I was a border line diabetic, lost 50 lbs and Im off my BP meds. You can do it too. Just gotta commit to it. Glad you get another chance!
Really glad your ok....funny ain't it we all used to be tuff guys years ago now we are all talking about our meds and the lack of being bullet proof LOL. Dam 6 pills every morning and I feel great. Good thing the Doc keeps and eye on me, Oh and the RN that I am married to.
