Newbie here! - Just picked up my new 08 Ultra and already have a question for you experienced HD riders.
Since the stock exhaust is pretty tame, can just the header pipes be changed out and leave the stock mufflers on? Im trying to get the heat off the right side with the split rear cylinder header. Im not looking for loud; Im more looking for moving the heat.
Couple ways to get the heat down. You can put in a set of XIED's in line with the 02 sensors. They run about $80. You can get duals and a good fuel management and air cleaner and that will take care of some heat. You can get saddle shields. You can do a combination of the above.
Your answer is yes. I too have an 08 "FURNACE ON TWO WHEELS". I have the Kury seat shields on mine. Also, I would do a search on the forum to see how others deal with the heat. Many posts.
You can just install a set of true dual headers and be done with it. I ran my 06 road king that way. If your looking for a set that is relatively inexpensive google Fullsac True duals, go to their website. when I bought mine it was like 180.00 for my 06. you reuse your factory heat shields, although you have to adjust and you do have a little of the rear header pipe visible, but not bad for me..anyway, check it out and good luck.
I knew I'd get some good ideas from you guys. Heat shields - yep, already planning on those. The header pipe thing sounds like a good deal. What about the O2 sensor, will it just screw into the header?
I heard left and right stock mufflers were not the same. They are made for the crossover.
So putting just headers on you would have two mufflers that are not the same back pressure .Is this true?
