Default Help please!!

I have a 1982 Tour Glide shovelhead. I have recently started having a problem with the bike cutting out at RPMs over 2500 and haven't been able to ride it. I first I thought I might have some bad gas, but then when I was messing with it this last weekend, I had it in neutral and started reving it up and the the neutral light would flicker as it cut out and when it got below 2500 RPMs it would run fine and the light would stay on. But it seems like the warmer the bike gets the worse the problem gets. So that was leading me to think that it was some kinda electrical problem. Does anyone know what this might be? I would appreciate any help, thanks.

If you are running an ignition system with advance weights, I would start there. I have seen this many times, the advance weights, behind the timing plate, freeze up and will not open. They work off centrifugal force. 2500 is just about where the timing advances and if the weights are sluggish or do not move, it will cut out when you hit 2000-2500 RPM. You can pull off the timing plate and see if taht is it easy enough ..........

Take your electrical connections apart and clean them, and inspect the wires for shorts, etc. On the plug type connectors use some silicone lube to prevent corrosion. On the bolt type connectors use the silicone also and use "star Washers" to prevent them from losening, don't forget the grounds. Hope this helps
