I knock a light dust off mine with a damp micro fiber towel with hot water and then Plexus or Pledge and a clean microfiber towel. If its kinda dirty I spray mine with a spray bottle filled half and half with car wash and water, let it sit a minute or two, hose it off, and then take the leaf blower to it. Some people will whine about it getting wet but I would rather wash the abrasive dust away than let it collect between touching parts and ***** up something. After you blow it dry go back with some Plexus on the micro fiber towel to shine it up and get rid and any left over bugs, etc. If its real dirty I wash it after rinsing the the first time. Some people wax and wax and wax but if you're not careful you're just removing paint a little at a time.
I use a California Dash Duster. It's the same material as the regular duster but smaller and easier to use on the bike. I've had my '07 Ultra over a year now and it's seen the hose only twice. The dash duster does a great job of pulling the dust off. Then I use lots of good quality, clean, micor-fiber towels and a detailing product called Mist 'n Shine. The Mist 'n Shine works on all the painted and chrome surfaces. I use Armor-all leather wipes on leather and Plexus on the windscreen. It takes a while but it's a labor of love. The ol' lady wishes I would spend this much time with her!
get it really clean, wash, wax, etc. then in between times swiffer or duster of some sort with one of the many spray on waxes works just fine. personally i use the wizard mist and shine
very good stuff and relativly cheap at the harley shop or on line.
Comment on BLACK...... The ONLY color for a Harley IMHO..... All bike colors get dirty
the SAME.... you can just see it better on Black. So, you can tell when a black bike is CLEAN.... other colors you may think it is clean,But you cant see it as well. One
of the pleasures of owning my Harley is the pride I take in keeping it clean. I know this
is not everybodies first love, but next to riding my clean vivid Black EG, cleaning my baby is next.................. hdman
I give you all credit. I don't take the time to clean my XL let alone a bagger. I'll give it a good detail when I put it away for the winter and when it comes back out. The time in between is for riding. I do wipe any oil from blow by off the pipes and oil tank, but that's just because I am sick of getting it all over my "work clothes". The indy and stealer I used to use would clean it but I have found things get done faster & cheaper when I pick up the wrenches myself...
The dealership I use, Fort Hood H-D in Killeen Tx., has a free bike wash every Saturday. I thought they all did. he he. Ya just can't beat it. Two sweet young ladies wash and clean the bikes for tips. The bikes get cleaned and the view is really nice too.

good microfiber is important...dont laugh,,but John Deere Quick Detailer works awesome..smells just like Harley Quick Detailer...cheaper in most places....it might be my imagination...but seems to work better than Harley..
