I was assuming the bracket which has come loose is the mounting bracket underneath the saddle bags as opposed to the clamps which hold the slipon. Although it seems we are discussing both.

Is it one or both which are causing you the problem?

I just checked my '08 Ultra which has the V&H Ovals installed by the dealer and was surprised that mine also has some play (up & down) on the left side while the right side is tight.

I'm glad mine isn't the only one!! I guess it is somewhat a normal thing going on!

This is funny! I have the older Screamin' Eagle slipons and believe it or not, my left side has a little play in it as well! Strange that it always seems to be the left side?

I backed up to a curb recently not realizing that the pipes would hit the curb, so I thought maybe I made that rubber thing lose by doing that. Looks like that wasn't the culprit.

I don't hear any rattling or anything, so I'm blowing it off.

I took a good look at this situation and it appears that the problem is a result of the metal hanger on the left side of the bike being a little longer than the hanger on the right side of the bike. The rubber spacer is the same (same part number) for either side; however, when placed on the left side it leaves a fraction of an inch space which allows the V&H Oval on the left side to move up and down. This situation is not the result of wear on the rubber spacer as my bike only has 50 miles on it (new). I fixed the problem by wedging a piece of ruberized plastic between the rubber spacer and the top of the metal hanger... no more movement. Movement of this nature can result in loosening of clamps, etc., if not addressed.

Good info, that may explain why my left pipe has slipped loose a couple of times. I am going to do the same fix....btw, what did you use for the rubberized plastic?

I had some ruberized plastic angles that are placed under metal straping to protect the edges of cardboard boxes from metal straps. I cut a piece from one of them to the width and length necessary and forced it into the gap between the top of the rubber isolator and the top of the metal hangar. You could use a piece of teflon or even a thin rubber washer depending on how big your gap is.

Is it possible that the loose condition is caused more from there 'not' being another mount on the left side, compared to the transmission mount on the right side. I always notice that my left side bag shakes a little more than my right side and I believe it's due there not being any other 'hard' mount, as on the right.
