I have the Vance & Hines ovals slipons that the dealer put on when I bought my scoot in June, 800 miles ago. I notice on the left side has a little play in it where the rubber mount is towards the back, under the saddle bag, the right side is tight, but left side has play. There doesn't seem to be a place to tighten it up! I called the HD tech and he side their is really nothing you can do for that, that is should be alright. I have 2 friends one has an 04 RK with V&H ovals and his are tight on both sides (the mounts), I have another friend that has 98 Ultra classic that has V&H also and his has the play on the left side but the right is tight also like mine.
Doesn't anyone have this problem or is it normal?
I have stock pipes onmy 02 Ultra and have the play on both sides.
took the bags off both sides to see what I could do about it and it would appear I would have to buy new rubber mounts.
If anyone has more ino or better idea , lets herar about it.
For now no need to worry about it as you still ahve warrenty to cover you.
Rob
I had the same issue on my 06 RKC (left side only) with the V/H basic slip on's...i cut a small section of stainless steel hose clamp and wedged it under the rubber mount...cured the problem...
I have V&H ovals and my left pipe kept slipping backwards even after I thought I had the clamp tight where it slips on (I re-used the stock HD clamp not the V&H clamp). I torqued it down tigher and so far it hasn't moved again, but I never noticed anything different about the fit of the hanger in the rubber grommet under the bags. I am going to check my left side to see if it is loose...but it may be unrelated to the pipe slipping back a couple of times

The rubber wears and stretches a little over time. Buy new inserts; they're cheap.
I would hate to think after 3 months and 800 miles I would have to buy new inserts!! Everything is tight on it It just bothers me a little, it's like the insert on the left is just a tad bit smaller than the one on the right!
I also have V&H Ovals and they are both still very snug after 5000 miles, just had the bags off yesterday for a wash, no problems.
PS also were dealer installed.
I wonder if they are all made at the same place? Like I mentioned before my friends and a few people on this thread have to same problem mainly on the left side.. maybe I'll just do like pjbolo said I might just have to modify it a little!
