I drained it hot and let it drain for awhile. It took 4 quarts to bring it to the half way mark on the dipstick when cold. I also drained almost 4 quarts out of it so it must be right.

I was hoping while I had it on the lift I could just put in X-amount of oil
Unless you have a table lift, it's easier to do the oil change on the ground with the motorcycle on the side stand. If it's on a lift I'm not sure how you get a drain pan under it.

Just put 3.5 or so in it and check it. Add as necessary. It ain't rocket science.

Lazy, No, just trying to work smart and get things right the first time. If it bothers you that I asked what I felt was a legit question tough s###t.

As you can see by the answers and if you read them some are putting in 3 1/2 some are putting in 4Qts. So you do it your way by the book and I will ask for answers on this forum. Which is what forums are for.

Does the owner manual tell you at what temp to check your oil..No!
Do some folks have oil come out of the A/C at 4Qts.....Yes
My question is what others are doing and if anyone has figured out a cold fill level that is correct.
Peace!!

Not rocket science here guys. After you drain the old oil and remove the old filter, then just let it drip a while.
Then I add a bit of fresh oil to the oil filter....put the new filter on. Then dump in 3.5qt. Take her around the block and then check the dip stick. On my SG I normally have to dump in the rest of the fourth quart to get it to the top of the cross hatch area of the dip stick

No, not bothered, just bewildered by such questions. Is checking the oil in a bike so different than any other motor with oil? Do you really need an owners manual to tell you that the oil must be at working temp to get an accurate reading? You want a cold fill level just do the oil change right the first time then check it when it cools. Problem solved. Peace be with you.

i change my oil using a condor chock to hold the bike upright. otherwise, i cant get a drain pan under it. get it hot, pull into the chock, put the pan under it, put on my mechs gloves (helps when you get hot oil on your hands lol) and let er drain for a while. when filling, i do like the book, and put in 3.5 qts. ride for a bit, then check it, and the level is usually just above the halfway mark in the hatched area so i leave it alone. no oil spewing out of ac for me!

Now you have answered the question! Took a while to get it out of you.

Forums work so much better if you answer questions and don't just write words to make someone questions seem dumb.
My parents taught me "There is no dumb question" and I believe that.
And thanks to the people that did answer this question properly
