Picked up my 09 Ultra today. Put about 130 miles on it. Some freeway, some surface street and a few twisties. Temps ranged from the mid 90's down to the mid 70's. Rode both 1 up and with the wife on the back.
First off, the improvements made to the 09 Touring bikes are great. I'm coming off of an 05 Road King Classic. The Ultra feels much more stable and planted. Also, much smoother than the RKC.
The Ultra is a heavy bike, which is most noticable when you lift it off the Jiffy stand, but once in motion, it felt lighter than my RKC. Fit and finish is fantastic and the dark blue pearl paint is stunning in the sun.
Just a few minor nit picks. The stock windshield is too tall. Ordered an 8" clearview to replace it. I love the stereo, but Harley kinda cheaped out on the speakers. The new exhaust system is an improvement in that there is no heat on my left leg, still some on the right leg, though not unbearable. The mufflers are a bit quiet, but I'm hesitant to replace them for fear of not being able to hear the stereo.
Overall, I'm very happy with the Ultra. After a little dialing in, it will fit me as well, if not better than the RKC did after a little customization. And the wife says the Ultra is way more comfy than the RKC.
Bike feels like it sits about 1 inch higher. Maybe the seat will break in and lower 1 inch.
Guys with new 09 Ultras at least go to stage 1 download, pipes and AC. I did and the power gain is well worth it. Stock I could hear it trying to get air thru the AC and was disappointed in the performance. I am very happy now with the addition of the stage 1. Really gets off the line now.
Even with true duals, ovals and ear plugs on the highway we can hear the stereo fine. Yes they are heavy. Don't ask me why I know this. Good luck with yours. You will love it.
