Default SG Fairing Question

I have an electrical inside of my fairing. When I turn the handlebars full left with the bike on the side stand something is touching something and causing some of my lights on the dash to lite (battery, engine, security key, and the tach quits working.

This is an 08 and under Warranty, but we have a trip planned in a few days and I would like to get this fixed before we go.

My question is how hard is it to take the fairing apart so I could have access to the wiring?
I do not have a service manual so if you would give me a step by step I would appreciate it.

The bike runs fine so I am pretty sure it is not going to be a big deal to fix once I am inside the fairing.
Thanks for any and all advise!

3 windshield screws, and 4 screws on the inner fairing, 2 out near the ends of the fairing, the other 2 are near the forks. Pretty simple.

Be prepared to hear about buying a manual.

It has been a couple of years since I had mine off. I don't believe you have to remove the headlight, but if you do, after removing the trim ring, it is only 3 screws as well. My trim ring only has 1 set screw in the bottom of it.

While you have it off, take a good look at your fairing brackets. The 2 main brackets usually break at the top on the 90 degree angle.

Thanks a lot!
If I remove the four screws will that just let me remove the outer painted part and be able to access the wiring?

First, cover your front fender just in case you drop or need to rest the outer fairing on the fender to unplug the headlamp when the outer is freed.

Use a T27 torx bit to remove the three windshield screws and remove the windshield. Then reinstall the center screw so that the outer fairing is secure while you remove the other four screws on the rider side of the fairing.

After the four on the driver side are removed, go to the front and remove the center screw while holding the outer fairing--when the center screw is removed the outer will want to fall down--but since you're holding it no problem. Pull the outer fairing away from the bike enough to reach the plug at the back of the headlamp and unplug the socket powering the headlight. Once the headlamp is unplugged, you can place the outer in a safe place, preferably on cardboard/terry towel/etc.

There are a lot of wires inside the fairing, and lots of connectors--sorry can't help to diagnose the electrical issue.

Good luck.

Sounds about right, I just had to remove mine yesterday in a bar parking lot after my headlight took a dump, and we were going to be riding at night to get home. Took less then ten minutes to pull it off and replace the headlight, and put it back together, no biggy.

Does anyone know what the torque specs are for the four bolts on the fairing and the three on the windshield?

Thanks Guys, I appreciate it.

According to the manual for my '07 SG, the 4 screws on the sides 20-30 in-lbs. The 3 windshield screws 25-30 in-lbs.
