i have a 2008 street glide with 3400 miles.i will be riding and then come to a stop and the thing is idleing at about 2000rpms!then some days it doesnt do it at all, although it seems to be happening more and more.i can turn the throttle foward to bring it back to normal ,but if i let go it will go right back up.new to the site and have found alot of great stuff thought someone could help with this.
You have a cableless throttle [all sensors now] and if you shut it off idling high it remembers that setting and will idle at that until you either pull it down like you did AND shut it off or with the bike off turn the switch off and on 4 times with a 10 second lapse each and it will idle right.
My 07 SG did that a few times this year. Does it ever seem that the idle falls off a bit far and/or/is a little too low also? I was kinda hopin' it was bad gas.

this is the fix. that is what we do at the shop....
Leave the run switch on, turn ignition 4 times on and off waiting 10 seconds between, it's back to normal. If you cut it off with throttle rolled even a little, it will remember.
From what the OP is saying, he is still riding the bike. Not shutting it down with the ETC still revving up the engine...
When I took delivery on my 08 earlier this summer it revved up to 2000 rpm from idle without warning. The dealer immediately said that they had an updated flash for the ECM to fix that bug which they missed doing on my bike. Took 5 minutes where the problem was solved and hasn't happened since.
One other possibility is the ETC Forced Idle Mode but the engine check lamp will come on.
might be from the old school way of the guy who revs his chevy truck before he shuts it off. you might be doing the same thing without even thinking.* amazing how much my gas mileage went up when i realized that rappin the throttle when at a stopsign, or light was using a lot of gas.* listen next time when you hear some bikes near an intersection.* the only time i gas it is when i want to go, and that's when it's in gear.* it made a huge difference in my gas mileage.
Mine did the same thing.
I tried the throttle reset several times but, it always returned.
The shop flashed the computer with the latest update and it's been
fine since.
