Recently I purchased a set of lower fairings off a 2007 Ultra. My question is, the upper fairing were it goes through the engine guard, is there a bracket there or does the cap hold it place. I ordered the caps from Harley at $150.00 for the pair, but the parts guy could not find any brackets other then the quick release.
So for all of you who have removed one, is there a bracket or just the cap.
There isn't a bracket at the top, just the cap and two nuts. The bottom has a clamp that goes around the engine guard with a bolt and nut. I don't see a need for the quick release kit for me. I take my lowers off for the summer months and put them back on in the winter.
the ones on my 01 have a clamp similar to a muffler clamp w/nuts at the top and an Adell clamp at the bottom. if a clamp is needed there will be holes in the fairing near the engine guard.
There are bolts that slide into a slot on the inside of the cap, they go through 2 holes into the glove-box and washers/nut attach along with the clamp at the bottom. I got the quick release kit for mine, but found I don't take them off very often. Just be aware if you get the quick release kit there are 2 large hand turnable connectors that go inside the glove box to connect to 2 new bolts that have to be put in the caps (just slide in), but these quick release things are rather large and take up considerable space inside the glove box an might make it hard to put in the liners, if you were planning to get them.
You need four "stud clips"--part no. 8175; and four "flange locking nuts"--part no. 7716. The stud clips attach to the cap, the studs pass through corresponding holes in the lowers, and are secured using the flange locking nuts.
The bottom clamps are part no. 27048-84, and use rubber washer 7415A (one in each clamp), screws 3655A, and flange nuts 7576.
The part nos. are from the installation instructions that came with my fairing lowers, purchased new in June 2008. Andy HD parts counter can print them out for you.
Good luck. Hope you got a smokin deal on the lowers.
