I had the 'high idle' glitch hit again yesterday and am absolutely sure that I was at normal idle after shutting down so there is definetley something wrong in the system somewhere. Does anybody know if moco has admitted that there is a problem here and is there any permanent fix?
The ignition switch re-cycle works but that is only a bandaid cure. I'd like to know what/where the problem is and have it fixed for good.
MOCO will never admit to a problem. I am on my second 2008 EGC. My first one always idled high even after the patch. My new one never has had a problem. I personally think they have no clue what the real cause is.
I've had the bike since March with no idle problems then, out of the blue, twice in a couple of weeks. Something ain't right here and I'd like to know what because this might be a symptom of a bigger problem.
Mine has done it 3 times in 3000 miles but the last 1500 have not been a problem.
Its not a big deal to me and an easy 60 second fix when it does happen.

same here , just bought (stole) a left over 08 flht..idles different every friggin time i ride it from 900 rmp to 2600 rpm.. dealer tells me needs reflash because the engine heat mgmt system keeps turning itself back on even tho i turned it off..good grief i wish it had cables like my 06 flhr
I had this issue with my 08 EGS..The second night i had the bike...I could clear it but then it would go RIGHT back to high idle with no throttle response.
It turns out the connector under my seat was 1) not clamped down at the factory and 2) the pins in the connector where damaged.
It was inspected, repaired and reconnected. I used some duck tape to make sure that the little pooper doesn't disconnect again and have beat the crap....ah, ridden the bike for about 850 miles with out a hick up.
BTW-this is a very common reason why the "system" goes haywire. The connector under your seat. (from what I've read) SEVERAL bikes at my dealer had many hours of time in them before they realized that the factory just wasn't paying good enough attention to the somewhat delicate connector.
I say disconnect, inspect and SECURELY reconnect that connector.
BTW---H-D isn't the only player that stupid little connectors can be a problem.
BC_guy, I have had this same problem on my 08 ( my first HD) . I do not know what to do anymore. i have had it happened many times ( lost count ) The problem with the reset is that eventually it can cause the engine to send a computer code that says it will shut down the engine soon ( that is what the dealer told me )
