I love my Road King Classic. EFI, Cruise, comfy, nimble, and the bags hold quite a bit. Its a touring bike without the "topheaviness" of the fairing models.

I was supposed to do a back-to-back RK vs. EG comparison today and had both reserved as rentals. However, the Heritage Rally is beginning this week, and a couple arrived early from Asheville and was checking in to see if they could go ahead and pick up the EG. They weren’t supposed to have it until this afternoon after I rode it, but since the RK was available, I decided to cancel my reservation and let them have it.

So, I got to spend some time on the RK and loved it. A lot different than my Sporty! For one thing, I can actually see images in my mirrors! I was pleasantly surprised to find that I spend a good bit of time in 4th gear as it worked well up to highway speeds. Once the speed limits and traffic allowed me to open it up some, I ran in 5th. This puts to rest my concern about waiting to buy a touring model until I see if HD puts a 6-speed tranny on them next year.

Red light and slow speed handling was superb. In fact, in some ways it was better then my Sportster. The only negative I can report is the bike seemed to “wander” some at higher speeds and through curves. I suspect this is driver induced, and would improve with more time on the bike.

The RK has laid the gauntlet down. I plan to rent the EG as soon as I can get it. My biggest concern with it is how much the fairing will factor in during the hot summer months. I do love the looks of the Classic though.

Nothing against a RK, great bikes, ride the EG before you buy. I hope you get a UC as a rental for a day.

Good luck finding your bike.

I havent ridden a RG yet and dont know if I want to. The way you guys rave about them I'll probibaly want one. Too bad the MOCO discontinued the Ultra version. Not to stir the pot but why did the Tour-Glide flop back in the day?

Rent as many as you can and then go ahead and buy a RK [sm=signs007.gif]!!! Seriously though, RK's are versatile. Windshields can detach, as can passenger pillion, sissy bars and even tour paks!!! You can have a cool cruiser look or full tourer. You can even have music on RK's even though they have no fairing. However, if a bike with a fairing is what you want, then I would go with the ultra-beautiful bikes.

Fairing are available for the RK that use the same mounts as the windshield does now. They are removable, once again adding to the universal features of the RK.

If you are interested in what is available, you can do a search on HDF as there have been discussions and photos on this before.

You can google search on Road King fairings and follow links.

EGLIDES ARE EXTREMELY HEAVY - takes a little geting use to.
NOTHING at all like a Sporty.
Lowering kit on my Ultra gave me much more confidence and stability - worth every penny.
I disagree across the board... The bagger is as easy to ride as any bike in Harleys lineup. They are a little more intimidating at first but you'll get by that after your first or second ride. I have been riding baggers since the early 90's. Put a lowering kit on the first one. Got tired of draging the exhaust & floorboards on corners. Haven't lowered one since. (I'm 5'9") The weight is well balanced and the only thing extreme about the bike is that it is extremely easy to ride & handle. The wife is 5'6" 118 pounds and found the road king easier to ride and balance than the sportster. If you have to shout that it is EXTREMELY HEAVY, you probably shouldn't be riding one.
