On an '05 Ultra (or any dresser, I suppose?) anyone have a fix for the mufflers being loose or rattling at ther rear mounts (where that rubber fitting is in that slotted mount)....they seem loose but I see no way (other than jamming someting into the rubber thing) to adjust them.
The bracket on the pipe should only be touching rubber (floating). No way it could rattle there if both mounting bolts are secure. Are you sure the rattle is not coming from a loose clamp somewhere?
Mine rattled no matter how tight the bolts were. Went to the dealer and bought new rubber mounts and that stopped it. Don't know how many miles are on your glide but it may help. Also my slip ons were squeeking at idle and low speed. I meen cagers looking at you squeeking! I replaced the clamps on the slip ons and fixed that. Little stuff you can do yourself, I like it. [8D]
Check the clamp that holds the muffler to the pipe. Mine kept coming loose and rattling at the rubber mount. I finally had to lock-tite the nut and torque the bejezus out of it.
Oh yeah, the last person to touch it before it started coming loose was the dealer, who installed the SEII's. I'm sure they re-used the original clamp, too.[:@]
Same problem here, left side was rattling. I'm on my hands and knees trying to figure out where this is coming from, bolts are tight and still rattling. I grabbed the muffler and it stopped. So I placed a hard plastic shim between the rubber bushing and the mounting plate for the two rear muffler mounting bolts and problem solved.
Hi,
My left muffler also was rattling. I loosed the two star bolts that secure the muffler to the frame. Then, using a ratchet tie down, I raised the muffler and re-tightened the bolts. No more rattle.
Mine just started rattling the other day. Left side rubber mounting. I tightened everything which wasn't loose and it still rattles. I'm thinking of shimming it with a piece of rubber.
The clamps that secure the muffler to the pipe are, so say the least, marginal. My mufflers where loose and after me tightning the clamps as far as I could, they where still loose. If the rubber mount wasn't on the crash bars the mufflers would have blown off. Either get a different clamp, or get a different clamp. The hd one sucks...........
Btw......... I bought a $700 cat back system for my pick up and they used the same style of clamp as Harley. Had problems with sealing until I changed clamps

You could try slipping a couple of black tie wraps in the slot and see if that fixes, if it does you could possibly just leave them in there, they may not show.
