Default Right / left side drive?

I'm looking at a 96 Road King w/ a 5 speed. If I buy it, i've thought about putting a 6 speed in. Could someone please tell me what side drive it is?

Also, is there a FAQ on changing the transmission anywhere? How tough of a job is it to do? (i've swapped plenty of motors, heads, etc)

Your bike has the drive belt on the left side. Right side drive is for wide tire bikes whose owners don't want to offset the engine and tranny to the left, for belt or chain clearance from the big *** tire. Or is it left side for Democrats, and Right side drive for Republicans?

You can get aftermarket gear sets that will fit your case and clutch.
