After 35yrs of ridding motorcycles, drag cars, and shooting guns my hearing is about gone.
I don't hear the 5th gear whine that everyone is talking about. I have to count on the feel of bike to let me know what is going on. And that explains why I wind up in 6th gear a lot.
So as you can see, I am try to overcome a handicap with my bad hearing. I just thought a 5th gear light would help me out.
The 6th gear light is based on RPM's or something like that so it changes it up
I suspect it is related to two things. Ecm is set to recognize sixth with a minumum speed from the speedometer and a range of rpms the engine should be turning related to speeds, once the switch is triggered in the tranny. If you by going to a 30 tooth the rpm/speed area is out of sync, by about 500 rpm, so the ecm says fu and won't light it up.
