I have the thunderheader slip-ons on my 07 Ultra. I had them on my 98 RK as well. I love the sound they make. They tend to turn blue, so you need to keep up on cleaning them.
I'm not sure why everyone loves Thunderheaders. IMO the build quality is lacking. They do sound good, but the blueing is ridiculous. It's also lame how the exhaust stains the area in front of the cone at the rear of the pipe. And then there's the lame falsie that people tend to put on the touring bikes... Yuck!
Expensive, too, when you figure in the heat shields. If I were to buy one it would be black, regardless of bike model.
They may be loud, but it doesn't bother me as I ride with ear plugs 100% of the time.
i HAD thunderheader slip ons on my 2002 Road King, and took them off in favor of the Rinehart true duals, mainly because after a couple hours in the saddle i had a pounding headache from the thunderheaders. You can't beat them for around the town, but on longer trips, it was too much. Other than the occasional (ok, more than somewhat occasional) change in the mounting bracket, or a cracked rear header or two, i've been pretty happy with the Rineharts!.
I agree with with HDRider2002, I had the Thunderheader slip ons on my '05 RK and in the morning at 7:00 am leaving for work, they were way too loud! I hated to start it up in the morning it was so loud. On longer trips they do start to wear you down with the loud drone. I ended up putting some discountinued early Screamin Eagle one piece "off road only" mufflers on, and I couldn't be happier.
I had them on my softail and loved them. I'm considering going all black, and I think they would make a great pipe for the Blacked out look. I just hated cleaning the chrome ones down by the tips. The blow back needs to be kept clean for the pipe to look good, and that's a lot of cleaning that I decided I didn't need with my dresser.
