I'd invest in electric vest or jacket linner for sure! UT has cold AM but great afternoon. We are in the 80's for rest of week but as others have said weather changes fast. You can always go out the northern, colors are starting to turn, and back the southern. Have a great ride.
in a previous reply someone mentioned don't do any additions right before you leave. the same goes for any maintenance. like don't change the oil and leave. ride it a bit first. make sure everything is okay.
and you might want to keep some info on where dealers are just in case.
i was also wondering if you will be hotelin it or campin it
I have made the trip several times and recommend this time of year 'Much Cooler"
and the southern Route, camp grounds less crowded and less traffic make sure you
stop at the Grand canyon if you haven't been there, rain gear and warm clothes
does get cool in some areas at night
Have fun I wish I was tagging along,Went to Sturgis last year in AUG toured the Nat

Heck yes I will be camping. Weather should be great for that and I love it. (not to mention the cost. ha!)
Hey Tim, I was the one that's turning 50 in March and I be looking at doing the same thing. Hell.... If I wasn't going around the lake next week and a cruise the first week if December you would have a riding partner no questions asked. Actually if I didn't commit to the round the lake....I think I'd be asking if you want a wingman!
Would have loved to have you BigDog. Let me know when you are gonna do your big trip and maybe I'll join you. ha!
You can run into bad weather here in Colorado any month of the year...but that shouldn't stop you from riding through the state. As long as we don't get snow, September and October are some of the nicest months to ride. You'll find much less traffic and pleasant days in the 50's (at higher elevations). Dress accordingly and figure on starting a little later in the morning (9:00 is okay) and remember that you'll drive across most of the higher elevations in one day.
I usually stay at the state parks when i can. (cheaper). I bought a book a while back, can't find it now as I am in NM and live in NH but is is like rv's guide to campgrounds. Gives you listings of campgrounds by region or state. yada yada yada great book ride till early afternoon then look up the place where your are going to be in a couple of hours and voila you have a place to crash and shower! Best piece of gear to take... well almost bring some woolies! I bought a cheap air mattress at wally world full size and it packs up small fits inthe tent and gets me off the cold ground. Besides my back doesn't bend like it used to!
