I sort of (not a RK but a FLHS with a windshield) made that transition back in July/August. I found it challenging because of the top heaviness of the front end fairing and the top heavy tour pac in the back. Its a technique to handle at slow speeds in my experience.
I appriciate everybody helping me with this dilema.
My local stealer wants to give me a lot of money for my bike as a trade for the 08 Ultra and I think it I should take them up on their offer. If I wait the bike will have way too many miles on I won't be able to get anything for it and then I will just have to keep it for ever.
I have reserved an EGC rental for tomorrow just to make sure it is the right bike for me (and the wife) and the kind of riding I plan to do. She already told me she likes it better than the RK but I have to like it better than the RK.
Ram, I see you never miss a chance to push the Dead Center Fairing. Do you get a kickback for everytime you plug DCC. Please don't take offense, it was just an observation.Oh and on the catch up trail, I just bought some vented lowers myself.
A true observation.
Wish that I was getting something, but no, not a dime.
However, I firmly believe that you get what you pay for.
If you want the best of anything, you most certainly will pay for it.
And “if you buy the best, you will not be dissatisfied”.
IMHO, DCC is the best.
Thanks for asking and can't wait to see the pictures of the lowers!
Well being frugal (ok cheap) My Firebagger serves me well (and locks) and never comes off. The DCC had too much dash and I wasn't going to add guages. The lowers are ebay items and need parts & paint (but wayless $$$ than from HD)
Perhaps we should have bought Ultras but I like my WW's, spokes, and leather, and had more fun personalizing my RK than having just another Ultra like everyone elses. Having the ability to strip it down to no tourpac, fairing, windshield or any combo is like having several bikes.
I couldn't pass up the deal they offered me so I took it.
I rode my new Ultra home today and I was impressed. Plenty of power and comfort. I was a little worried about handling the extra weight and seat height but no problems.
It will take me a little while to used to the throttle and the exhaust note but that can be fixed.
