I need to access the interior of a 99 Ultra, one of the front speakers isn't working. What's the easiest way to access it and see what I need to do, hopefully it's a loose connection.
The shop manual is the best place to look for this sort of stuff. Some of the best $$ you can spend...
That being said, There are 3 screws that hold the windshield in place. Two on the side of the fairing (one on each side) , and two that are down at the bottom of the fairing in the space between the forks (again, one on each side)
When those are removed, the cover will come right off.
Just a suggestion, Remove the three screws holding the windshield in place last as the cover has the tendency to fall off and can really screw up your front fender.
Thanks for detailing how to take the fairing off. I have an 06 SG that I need to pull the CD/radio out of, the display doesn't work and the bars are loose.
I had a speaker cut out on my '06 EGC. Thought maybe a wire popped off because it only had 8000 on it. Turned out the magnet came off. It fell off and was stuck to the metal part of the fork. Glued it back on and soldered the wires back in place.
i always just leave the center windshield screw in but loose until last. that way i can hold the fairing up, take out the center screw and unhook the headlight wiring. good luck, it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Thanks, will try it over the weekend sometime. Bow hunting in the AM, brother getting married in the PM. Most likely try it Sunday afternoon. Anyone bought the CD manuals offered on ebay from time to time?
