Get one of these adapters then you'll need a Trailer Isolator Relay that will connect to it. After that you can wire a 5 wire plug directly or use a 4 wire converter to go to a 4 wire configuration.

There is a plug and play set up out there check out www.electricalconnection.com

A little story about this company. I had troubles with the relay on my harness burning up it happend twice. I called the company and they were so concerned about the problem that on of the electrical engineers got on a plan the next day and flew from Tennesee to me in Minnesota to look at my bike.

I dont know what bumper is on the new 09 but I am selling my hitch from my 06 ultra, mind you I have a stiped down rear fender. the hitch is completly hiden under the fender and the ball hitch is removable like a truck hitch, so you dont even know that you have a hitch unless the ball is on

He spent 3 hours in my garage looking at all of the wiring and putting in-line fuses on all of the input and output leds. Long story short I am not affiliated with this company, but to came all that way just to look at my bike says a lot about the company.

Ditto....I was trying to switch my harness over from a 5 pin to a 4 pin. Had the isolator from Bushtec and the 5 to 4 converter from EC. Could not make it work. They stayed on the phone with me for A LONG TIME to straighten it out. Seems I had an old style isolator so they sent me the pins and plugs so I could update it. This is not the first time they have helped me out

I've been running a Bushtec trailer. They installed the wiring at a Rally when I bought the trailer. However, had a problem where the relay died on me. Since then, I've added a simple isolation switch between the relay and battery. I just turn off power to the relay unless the trailer is hooked up. Works fine now.

I have a motovation trailer. I replaced the filament bulb with LED bulb and everything works just great. Mototvation uses a five wire setup so it is just like my RG!

You definitely will want to use an isolator relay. I use a drawtite brand with it's own power supply, it is a 5 into 4.

The reason for the isolator is if there is any short in the trailer wiring it will not affect the bikes wiring. The reason for it having its own power supply is so that trailers lights do not put a load on the bikes wires.
