Default Trailer wiring

Is this a typical wiring plug for a trailer? Just purchased an American Legend Sport (used) and it came with this 5-pin plug. Is there an adaptor that will get me hooked into my 09 Ultra wiring harness? All the adaptors I'm finding on-line have a different plug configuration.

No, that's not a typical plug for a "pull behind the motorcycle trailer" although it could be made to work.

1st thing you have to determine is whether the trailer is a 4 wire setup or a 5 wire setup. In other words, are each side turn signal and brake light run thru the same light housing or is there separate lights for each.

4 wire - ground, running light, right turn/brake, left turn/brake

5 wire - ground, running light, right turn, left turn, brake

Your bike is a 5 wire setup. In order to connect to a 4 wire trailer, you must have a converter.

Here's a good place to start with wiring options (scroll down to the wiring section). There are other outfits that sell 4 or 5 wire flat connectors too:

Some food for thought. LED lights on the trailer really make for a good option. A lot less draw on the stock HD electrical system.

Looks like part of the above setup. I've had these in the past and don't care for them. The wires are pushed into the receptacle and then a set screw is tightened...they always came loose on me and cause problems.
I have found the best solution for me is;
1. get a connector the goes between the factory wiring for the rear of the bike, makes wiring a very simple job. Unplug the factory plug, snap the "jumper" plug between the factory plug and reconnect the factory plug. You will now have the wires for connecting the trailer coming off the factory plug. No cutting or splicing...easy removal for warranty work.
2. Go to Car Quest and buy a 5 wire rubber plug. Not a pretty as the chrome ones but it won't come loose and cause problems down the road.

works for me anyway.

I'll get a picture of that "jumper" plug and post it.

Whatever type of harness you end up with, I'd suggest you look at an isolator type system.

These systems pull power directly from the bike and use the light connector to trigger a relay to light the trailer lights using the direct power line. That way you do not power the lights on the trailer from the power supplied to the bike's lights. This way is a lot safer for the bike's electrical system.

There is one shown in the Kromeworks link in a previous post.
