Default Filter Magnets

O.K., everybody is so concerned about which oil to use. I think this little device may be more important than the brand oil or filter that you choose to use. I am posting to learn more about it. Facts are best, logical opinions are welcome as well. Standing by...........

Seems like a cool idea! But...being the Devils advocate that I am, and certainly not a service techy, would the extra metals on one or all sides of the filter cause a oil flow problem? Therefore a heat issue?

They are not gonna work wonders in an a mostly aluminum engine. Your drain plug already has a magnet. Ever notice how little metal is on it? Save your money.

Unless they come up with a magnet that will attract alum. there really isnt much to worry about( imo ) but I do use a small frige magnet one of those that are about 2x2 inches and the filter is black . I installed it when I had the 95 kit installed and it was a safety precaution and I install it after doing an oil change.... does it make a differance couldnt tell you but the drain plug magnet is clean for the most part.

The rods are steel along with the parts that wear the most, cylinder walls, rings, cams, lifters, gears, oil pump rotors, cam/main/rod bearings, valves, guides, and timing chains. Yes we usually find very little on the drain plug, but isn't it a little extra insurance by having a magnet elsewhere, and the cost is only about a dollar more for the filter.

I read somewhere perhaps here on HDForums, that old computer hard drives have a nice little magnet in them, and disposed of hard drives should be easy to come by. fwiw...

Also one can find nice round and very strong magnets in the older microwaves....you know, the ones that weighted 50 pounds! Not sure about the newer, light ones.

Anyway, I put two of them on the crossmember below the engine/trans and they serve to activate the sensors in the pavement that senses a vehicle to change the light from red to green .... and for the turning lane instead of sittin thru 3 light changes before you just turn anyway........and risk a ticket from the gestopo.
