The wife and I just got back from one of the best trips we have ever taken.
We left Fla on the bike last Thurs and headed up to western NC, stayed in Maggie Valley part of the time and then at the Ironhorse lodge in Stecoah.
That has got to be some of the best riding anywhere, we did the Blueridge parkway, 441 to Gatlinburg, the dragon and the cherohala skyway.
The weather was perfect, we did not see rain from the time we left til we got back home, mid 70's during the day and mid 40's at night.
Best of all I got to know the new ride a little better. We just bought our first touring bike about 3 weeks ago, an 09 Ultra. I have always had softails and did not really want to get one of the bigger bikes, all I can say is wow.
I wish I would have made the move years ago, the wife has had some back issue so we figured it was time to get her some more comfort..
I am in love with this thing, we rode from 10 am til about 845 pm last Tues and neither of us were hurting. Awesome bike can't wait to ride her tomorrow, she just turned 2500 miles and I am looking forward to the next 2500.
Sorry for the long post but I am like a kid at Christmas, anyway if you have never ridden up n that area it is worth the trip.
Next time take a ride up to New York City, and when you get here, I will hook you up with a oil & filter change at no charge! I can also help you out with some outstanding rides in Northern NJ & Southern NY State.....plus help you out with some very inexpensive lodging thats like a mile or two from the entrance of the Lincoln Tunnel!
Mo, you are right, I think I could go every year and enjoy it just as much.
Biz, we may take you up on that sometime. The wife has been talking about wanting to go to NY for a while now, and I have heard there is some nice riding up that way.
I love riding in any part of the Blue Ridge. Been fortunate enough to ride to Linville Falls twice in the last month. Going a little further south in a couple weeks to Waycross, Ga. From the twisty mountain roads, to the straight flatlands, I've never seen a bad day to ride.
Great area, great people who operate the Iron Horse, 6 years in a row we've been up there, one of our favorite places too. Love Cherhola, love Blueridge, love Ashville, hate the dragon.
