I purchased the set.
Their a good start to get you to understand how easy it is to work on these units.
However, a Service Manual is the next step. You'll be needing that.
I think I loaned my set out to one of my buddy's while Im away.
I bought a service manual, Parts manual and a Electrical Manual.
I bought the complete set. They are a great starting point for basic maintenance such as oil changes, brake service, clutch and throttle adjustments and battery care. Months later, I also bought a service manual which I find much more useful.
I had never worked on a Harley before and I think that the DVD is a great way to get started assuming you have reasonably good mechanical skills. You will definitely need the service manual. I found it handy to have the service manual on hand when I watched the DVD to take notes in. I found that the DVD gave me the confidence I needed to get started and to trust the service manual. After the initial viewing I have not looked at the DVD, but I know its there if I need it. I don't take out a wrench without having the service manual at the ready.
Also, do yourself a favor and go to Office Max and get the service manual spiral bound. Best $5 you will ever spend (Someone forum member suggested this so I can't take credit for it, but it is a great suggestion). If they don't have the large spirals then let them do it in two binders but have them copy the table of contents and add it to the first book. Very handy.
