Keep your head up with eyes looking forward;
That is what I see so many doing wrong. Look up as if you are looking at the trunk/rear window and use the rear brake.

Anyway, it is hard not to think about it when you have the feeling of not being in total control. And your 2001 has total different front brakes than my 08 and that may have something to do with this. Trust me these things stop without a lot of feed back, nothing like my 1999 front brakes.

I think the advise from others about using the rear brake at the end of the stop is very good advice and I will try using this technique in the future.

On my 1999 FatBoy I would use both front and rear and could always come to a straight stop. On the SG I guess I will need to change and use the rear more and less front.

No 'smart-***' meant. I've had the same problem and it always seems that when I think too hard about it, I get shakey also. I use both brakes to slow and just before stopping I use front only and both feet on the ground at the same time.

When I used to golf, many years ago, I had a similar problem. I'd go a week or two without playing, and the first 4-5 holes, no problem. Then I'd start thinking about what I was doing and Blahhhhhhhhhhhh.

I use both brakes to slow down and then use the rear brake to stop. I put my left foot down first.

You can also try to 'feather' your clutch........some call it the 'friction zone'.
You are slowing to a stop, and you step on back brake to slow.....BUT you match your clutch to allow just enough momentum to continue forward.
As you near the stop.......your clutch slips just a bit as your brakes over power it.
As you are almost stopped....pull in the clutch and stop smoothly.
You can also use the friction zone to ride up to a stop light at about 1/2 MPH...while other riders are dragging their feet, or using their feet to waddle up to the light, YOU cruise by.....barely moving....with your feet on the floorboards!

I use both brakes to slow down, then plant both feet and use the front for a complete stop. Don't like to stop with just one foot down. Looking at the Ride Like a Pro video it seems that they all come to a complete stop with both feet down like I do, only way to do that is making the complete stop with the front brake. A lot of weight to stop when two up so I have always stopped with both feet planted.

Practice makes perfect, eventually you don't even think about it. One thing that I remember is to pick a spot and roll up with a little speed and just plant it there..don't creep up on a stopping spot without power. So get to your picked spot without creeping and plant both feet and front brake for compete stop.

I think you're right about that. I get no wobble on my Road Glide when stopping. Great thread none the less.
