I have one of the Kuryakyn relocator kits on my 2001 Ultra. Yesterday I was changing the rear tire and noticed something wrong as I was leveling the right muffler. My tourpak was crooked slightly. When I got to checking around to see what was wrong, I noticed that the tube the tourpak sets on was broken at the front bolt. I checked the other side and it was broken almost exactly like the right side. The tubing is broken clean through and you can move the tourpak and the gap spreads open. I have sent an e-mail to Kuryakyn about this since they are closed on the weekends, and I hope to hear from them soon.
A note to this story is that looking at the new kits that Kuryakyn sells they now have a longer lower bracket that actually clamps to the tubing well forward of the weak bolt hole area. My guess is that they changed the design after numerous complaints of this problem!
Has anyone had this problem with the Kuryakyn relocator kit? I'm assuming the kit # 1527 is the one I have on my bike, and it has been superceded by the new #1559 kit.
Anyone had any technical dealings with Kuryakyn for problems that could tell me how their support is (good/bad)?
I had heard about the Kury kits breaking a few years ago when I was in the market, that was the biggest reason I went with the George Anderson relocator plate.
I've also heard that Kury's customer service sucks.............so good luck.
YUp .... must be fairly common. Buddy had the same thing happen - the tubes broke at the bolt holes on each side and noticed it when riding and the tour pack bouncing around.
He fixed it by removing stuff for access to the tubes and inserting a steel rod inside the tube. Think he did some welding on it too.
After I seen his problems with Kurki .......... bought a George Anderson! Only way to go.
Well, I heard from Kuryakyn today! I was told that I had one of the older version, and that there were several revisions since then. Also I was told that it had a one year warranty, and to let them know if I needed any more help. In other words, we know it was flawed and prone to break (that's why they changed the bracket to offer more support) but we won't do anything other than sell you a newer version.
So much for customer service.
Does George Anderson make the tourpak extender for the non removable tourpak?
I had a Kuryakyn kit on my '06 EGC. I took it off when I went detachable. My U-bracket looks like the one pictured in the Kury catalog. If you are interested, it's yours for shipping. PM me.
