I just completed my first Iron Butt this Saturday... Leaving Dallas Tx to Kent Tx (just shy of El Paso) 1,040 miles in 18 hours...
I have to tell you that the Ultra is a great bike...my wife rode with me...and I was never really uncomfortable....we stopped about every 120 miles for gas...
You hear lots of issues about HD here....but what a bike to cruise on....
Congratulations. I have completed my Saddlesore and a BunBurner Gold. I never considered doing it with a passenger.. Might be the option for my Border to Border Insanity.....
Glad you enjoyed the bike...
I am riding from Mexico to Canada next year for my BTB insanity. I know I will enjoy the Cruise Control and adjustable backrest.
Congrats; glad it worked out well for you. If you apply for certification, let us know how long it takes--they had some significant delays a year or two ago.
If you were stopping every 120 miles, you were haulin' to cover 1000+ miles in 18 hours, especially with a passenger.
Yea me and buddy rode 1022 in 17 hours on way home from nc to california and back.No ironbut piece of paper but hell I know I did it and thats all that counts.
Congradualtions
Congrats; I can't believe you took your wife. My wife did 500 miles with me last year. She slept for 12 hours afterwards. I guess the Ultra is more comfortable than a RKC.
I did my Saddlesore 1000 this year by riding out to Sturgis for a Tshirt, going cross country on Hwy 14/34, making the Wyoming loop from Sturgis to Sundance to Newcastle, back up through Rapid City, and back to Minnesota on I 90, putting on 1056 miles. I took my time, spent a couple of hours at Thunder Road at Sturgis, and did it in about 20 hours.
The web site currently has registrations through May of '08, so they are running about 4 months behind.
The registration fee of $45 was nearly half what I spent on gas !
My lady told me I was nuts--no way would she go with.
I also used a gel pad seat cushion, and experienced no hip cramps or monkey butt at all. I also have an Air Zeppelin on our '06 Ultra, which has 21" of width across the hips. I agree with you....the Ultra is a great long distance tour bike.

I just did my Saddle 1000 and BunBurner 1500 last weekend (9/20-9/21).
Did 1050 in 17 hours, 3am - 10pm
Slept for 5 hours
Back on the road at 5am - to my original location at 2pm
The same witness at 3am was there a 2pm
Submitted all my paperwork, so I will see how long it takes
Ultra, 6 speed, cruise control, sheepskin gel pad, radio, cd, open highway
What more can you want
Congrats on your ride. Riding with the wife that far and that long is a true..... ahhh, test of your endurance......lol. I have done 3 SS1000's so far and yes the paperwork does take some time, but it is worth the wait. I did two of them on a Honda CBR1100XX. One I did in 12.5 hours, 1109 miles, I rode from NY to FLA. My latest was on a BMW1200GSA, I rode with a friend of mine, he was on a 07SG, we did it in 16.5 hours. Again, congrats on your ride. Be proud.
I have mine planned. Leave Waco, head south to SA, I-10 to I-20, then I-20 back to I-35W then back home. Now that the weather is getting cooler, I don't think it will be a problem...unless another tire problem crops up....
