Dunno why (some) people seem to feel this looks so bad. Would you rather have the big loops hanging out the back like prev years? There does have to be some level of FUNCTION to these things. I suspect that their position is also a factor of where they have to be located so as to not exert undo leverage/strain on the docking points.
If they were tucked down deep between the bags and the fender, Ill bet people would be upset that its hard to get the tour pak on without dinging the fender or the bag lids in the process.
All very true! Do you have close up pics. of how the backrest etc. attaches?
Just recieved my docking hardware kit, chrome doo-hickie covers and backrest in the mail yesterday and then saw a pic of the kit installed (sans backrest) on a Street Glide here on this forum. Wow! is that the best the MoCo can do? Talk about looking like a di*k on a fish!!
Now I can't bring myself to install the kit and ugly up that (finally) beautiful rear end!!
Anybody got any word on if any aftermarket companies are stepping up to the plate and addressing this?
Thanks
I have the two point on my 09 SG and it doesn't look that bad to me?. Sure I wish it didn't have anything showing but it could be worse. I will agree with you though, not a fan of the four point.
I like being able to add the tour pack, the passenger backrest, or go solo when I want to. To me the docking hardware may not be things of beauty but without them I can't use my one bike as a do it all ride
Now if I could afford a couple of more bike that would be nice.
I just put on the 4-point docking kit for my detachable sissy bar on my 09 RKC. I went with the standard size upright & low-profile pad. I don't think it looks bad at all?
You can buy chrome covers from the moco that completely cover the pin part of the docking hardware. I thought they really improved the looks of it on my 09 street glide.the part # is 48171-09
I just purchased the 4 point docking hardware also and had seen it on flyingace's bike pictures and live on a bike in a dealer's showroom so knew what to expect. I did purchase the cover "kit" for $40 from H-D which looks just like big Hottoppers. Will probably install it on Friday as the aftermarket tour pack has been shipped.
