Im going to change mufflers in my new 09 road king classic. I would like to use fishtail mufflers. Supertrapp has 2 models: S.E. Series and Kerker and I havent heard any of them yet because here in Spain Its hard to find people who use them. I would like a not to loud muffler. Supertrapp sais that their S.E. Series are only a bit louder than stock but I wonder if they are a waste of money (like harley's S.E. Street legal), in the other hand there are KerKer mufflers but maybe they are too loud (in Spain we have some kind of exhaust volume control and I dont want to have problems with police everyday). Can anybody please give me more info about this 2 mufflers? It would be great to read some users opinions.
I had the Kerkers with the P.A.T. baffles. These were fairly loud even with the fishtail tips. Nice and deep, but probably louder than you are looking for. I have not heard the Kerkers with the other available baffle, but they are supposed to be quieter that the P.A.T. baffles. This might be the way to go...
I've had supertrapps on two bikes.
On a 1340 Evo engine, they were slightly louder than stock with a mellow sound .... and not overly loud even on full acceleration.
On a 96 Cu In - they give a much deeper tone, yet pleseant to the ear. On hard acceleration, they tend to bark a bit but not bad.
Just my take
The S.E. are one of the best sounding mufflers you can buy. Don't let SuperTrapp fool you with the "only 3db louder than stock" line. That's at cruising speed. The mufflers will give you a nice deep tone when you get on the gas. But a reasonable at cruising speeds.
I have SE's on my bike and I think it sounds better than most other baggers I hear (but then again, don't we ALL think that?). My description would indeed be something like "slightly louder than stock, but much deeper tone". They do have a "bark" when you hit the throttle...just enough to be satisfying.
