Always HD but only in black,hate trying to keep chrome polished.

I never understood chrome on a filter since it cost more and helps keep the heat in.

An analysis of oil filters that you can find published on the web disects the filters in filtration ability, by pass valve, and anti-drain back valve. If you are looking for a top shelf filter, for a better priced then these are the options, available at a chain parts store.

I've used the stock HD filters and the K&N filters with equal positive results.

Going cheap isn't the best ~ as generally you get less than you pay for anyway!

I think he's saying he buys 6 (six) at a time, not that he pays $6 per filter. That ain't happening anywhere for an HD filter....
