Here's my take! I purchased the 5 yr extended warranty last Saturday when I picked up my 09 Ultra. Bought it (1)because asked for discount on it and got it.(2)Price is same on all FL models, so since there is a lot more electronics/radio/cd/gages or stuff inside fairing I bought it. If I had been buying a RK instead, may not have gotten it. My 02.

Insurance, which is basically what it is, is all about risk assessment. I would say access your risk and then decide. Prime example, Deepsouth knows he has tons of expensive electronics on his bike and one component being replaced may pay for the warranty itself. Warranty purchase makes sense. What will your level of risk be, can you live with it, or do you want to finance some piece of mind.

I bought by bike from a private party it had the 5 year extendened warrranty I don't
think I would have bought the bike without it. the bike had 29000 miles the oil pump
broke at 31000 took out the engine. The radio and cb had to be replaced later also the transmission shift shaft that sticks out of the trans behind the primary case striped
the transmission had to be R@R to fis it I think the warranty has saved me about 6ooo
dollars

It's a waste of money, unless you've got money to burn.

The older I get, the more of this crap I tend to buy (and I used to never buy any - EVER!) What I've seen from experience is the past few cars we've purchased in the family (Daughter's cars etc.) we did spring for extended warranty and they all payed off in spades. Glad we got it. So, I feel comfortable springing for it here on my new sled. It's money paid once up front so that pain quickly goes away but the protection lasts for years so you feel good about it. Everyone has different levels of tolerable pain though.

+1 on that. I'll have 24,000 on mine in around a year. Plan on keeping it 5 years will have over 100,000 on it chances are It will pay for itself. if not it was good for peace of mind. If however like most you only put 6or7K on it a year you might not need it.

Yeah the older I get I go for all that insurance crap too,I can bet if I don't have it I will end up wishing I did,and of course if I have it I never need it.Kind of like the stuff you carry while travelling,if you carry it you will never need it,but just you not carry something and that will be what you need.

I cashed mine in and installed a 95" kit and a cam. I'll take my chances. Spend too much on insurance already.

Does it help negoiate a better priced to purchase the extended warranty? Example: Yeah I'll buy the Extended Warranty and wave the Prep Charges. Then a month later, cancel the extended warranty?

Just a thought...

They charge you to cancel it so why would you want to. Also you have to do it thru the selling dealer so it would probably create problems for you in the future if it was that obvious why you did it. Ain't worth the ill will for just a couple to a few hundred dollars. I did cancel an extended warranty once but it was a freebie given as a perk to buy the bike and therefore I did not feel obliged to keep it, plus it 2g.
