It's worth it if you use it. It's not worth it if you don't. My buddy was a sales manager for a Harley dealership. He said the extended warranties were one of the biggest money-makers they had. He claimed they were one of the biggest rips too. Why do you think every time you check out at Best Buy that pimply-faced DH at the check out counter asks if you want to buy one for everything they sell? That's business for you.
I
Your buddy is a idiot ! As a dealer for close to 15 years for every customer that never used there extended warranty I can name 10 that were pissed off that 3 years down the road they had to pay for repairs that would have been payed under the extended warranty and mad as hell you did not offer it to them. even though you did. As for money makers yes the price for a extended warranty is regulated by the insurance commission { In florida at least } and have a 50% margin, The real money is made when they do covered repairs under the extended warranty.Dealers want to fix your bike under extended warranties It is a win win dealer makes money fixing stuff you get stuff fixed, But always make sure it is a FACTORY extended warranty!

Just curious, how many who buy the extended warranty actually get their money back in repairs?

I can only speak for my dealership's. We would look for thing's to fix under warranty. I may have misled in my post I was not a Harley dealer. I was a Honda Yamaha Kawasaki Suzuki KTM dealer and with the exception Honda. Most would recoup there cost. Honda thinks they are GOD and god does not F--- Up. But we had more problems with Hondas then all the rest. One point that I missed is trade and resale.
Since this was my first Harley I sprung for it. Already had a new rear tire and front master cylinder cover paid for under warranty. Does give me a little more peace of mind. For me personally it was worth it.

"Most would recoup their cost" Now that surprises me. I don't see how an extended warranty plan could possibly pay for itself.
