Hi there to you all riders. I have been reading all over this and other sites about replacing the front motor mount. The one in my 06 Ultra Classic was bad so I decided to change it. I bought the latest 79D with a harder rubber. Needless to say the bike's vibration was worse than before just like many of you were experiencing.
Took it back off to see if I had made a mistake while installing it. I had it right the first time. Put it back together and this time I noticed even more Vibration. After a close check I noticed that the engine was resting on the frame (left side) and barely touching the rubber mount. Had anyone experienced this problem while changing the front mount? I had to put thick washers along with some rubber washers between the top of the mount and the end of the bracket just to lift the engine off the frame about 1/2 inch. I have no idea how this could've happened. There is only one way for the bracket to fit in that tight spot. I have taken it apart several times to inspect the area, but again it only fits one way and the two bolts holding it down keep it flat on the engine. I don't know what else to do. I 'm still having vibration problems and I'm afraid the mount will fail prematurely because of the way the washers and the center bolt are putting preasure on the mount.
Thanks in advance
I have a vibration problem too, had the dealer tighen the motor mounts no help but my old 75 would get to vibrating and it was always the top motor mount would be loose.
I'll be looking into this more and post anything I find.
Please do not take offense to this. Did you put the mount ears under the motor or on top of the motor?? They should be under the motor. If you installed them on top of the motor then you would have the problems you described. It would also make the motor out of alignment causing more vibrations. Hope this helps.

Miacycles, now that you mention that.... I sure put the bracket on top and not at the bottom of the holes. I'll get to it next week since I'll be traveling to GA this weekend to see the family. By the way I'm in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft Bragg. Thanks a lot brother for getting me straight. I knew somebody had the answer!! All The Way!
