if you want to reuse the stock rod and replace just the joints, you will need a 5/16 x 24. i got mine from a place on ebay, 2 joints, plus shipping, 8 bucks and some change. then you need a couple of stainless bolts, and a nylon locknut (got that from lowes). the front joint is not threaded so you'll use a bolt and the locknut there, the rear (transmission) lever is threaded, so just a bolt there, again 5/16 x 24. all told, i think i spent 10 bucks and some change. oh yeah, don't forget the 2 stop nuts that you will need on the rod before the heim joints. note: these heim joints are not chrome plated, but if you're reusing your old stuff, it isn't chrome either...

here is a link to the place that i got my heim joints from.

**the heim joint in the above post will not work with your stock shift rod. you need a female heim joint to use the existing rod.**

I have an aftermarket rod with 5/16"x24 threads, and I believe this is the same as stock. I bought my heim joints on Ebay, which were around $25 with shipping per pair. You can buy nice chrome shift levers with heim joints on Ebay for reasonable prices. Make sure you buy one with two heim joints, not one with the crummy ball-and-socket type on one end.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I knew there had to be something out there other than giving up another Ben Franklin to HD.

Kuryakyn sells a stout shift linkage with hiems for $35. Or you can spend some serious coin for something fancy. Just please replace that flimsy stock linkage - toss it in the bottom of your saddlebag in case you find a fellow bagger on the highway who ignored this advice.

If you are referring to the Heim joints, I ordered them here on eBay. There are two left.

After wearing out two stock sets I replaced them with SS Heim joints from J&P with lock nuts.
