Default Bike Balance....

I've got an 08 Road King and it always seems to pull to the left. You don't really notice it unless you ride with hands off and then it always tries to pull to the left regardless on the road surface. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a fix?

Thanks...jm

My '08 EGC does the same, as did my '07 Heritage. Never have found the answer.

i've heard a couple of things:

the primary is heavier on the left so cause bike to lean left, and the tension of the clutch cable pushing on the handlebars causes the bike to lean slightly.

both reasons sound like they could be plausible, so........... (as long as you're sure that everything else is in spec, what else could it be?)

Why are you riding with the hands off? It wasn't designed for that particular move unless you're trying to be cool

Roads are crowned to the right...So it ain't that. Maybe your left leg is heavier than your right. What side do you carry your wallet on?

Just kidding with ya!

It probably is heavier on the left because of the primary.

I highly doubt the bike would track straight hands free nor is it meant to.

The common response is because of the primary being off the left side, but If you really look at the motor its not installed center line of chassis, so Id rule that out. Clutch cable pull could be a possibility, or chassis alignment could be out. You probably wont find the reason. HD's response will be something like, "they all do that", or "thats normal". Id have to wonder how tight the tolerance is in mounting the steering head to the frame, but thats probably way out there also.

I don't ride with hands off to be cool, rather to educate myself to how the bike feels and moves without steering input. There is a lot to be learned from the experience. Doing so was recommended to me by a very experienced riding friend who happens to be a motorcycle cop.

And yes, my bike slightly wants to turn left, but with a very small weight adjustment it tracks straight.
