Like drbillk said, if I gave a crap mine says
71 on the Street Glide and 68 on the GPS (Garmin nuvi 760)
71 in my Chrysler Aspen and 71 on the same GPS
71 in my wife's Buick Enclave and 71 on the same GPS

At least this should help me from getting a ticket on the Street Glide.
I don't ride 3 mph faster just to accomidate it.
I just ride and enjoy it.

Please excuse the minor hijack here but I'm curious. Tim, I also have Honda Civic (06 model) and an old Garmin GPS (monochrome screen) and it's dead on with the Civic. My car has the Honda factory GPS in it and I thought that might have something to do with the speedo accuracy. Does your Civic have the factory GPS? I'm just curious if that's what's making the difference.

Back on topic, until the Civic, I've never had a vehicle (2 or 4 wheeled) that wasn't at least 2 to 4 mph optimistic. The worse one was an '83 BMW R80RT that read 8 mph fast.

Thanks & Ride Safe,
Steve R.

I believe I said civilian. Like Tom Tom, Zumo, etc. Your company is using registered GPS's similar to surveyor gps's.
Like Texas Fat boy said........ and I only use mine to find the next watering hole anyway.

Steve,
NO I don't have a GPS in the car. I use the Garmin Streetpilot. I also just upgraded my maps and it was worth doing it as I just took a trip to the Grand Canyon last week. Also my Civic is a Si. he he!

Maybe HD didn't re-calibrate the 09? The new rear tire is 1 1/2% smaller diameter than the 08-prior.

MU85B16 25.71 Diameter = 80.75"
180/65-16 25.30 Diameter = 79.48"

My 04 Dyna was only off 2-3%. My GL1800 speedo was off 9%! The Odometer was closer to accurate.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for that. The Honda factory GPS doesn't display vehicle speed directly so I thought it might influence the cars speedometer but I guess not. I've got an old Garman Streetpilot with monochrome screen and I checked it against the cars instrumentation and it turned out to be within .5 mph just about everywhere. I guess it is possible for a manufacturer to accurately callibrate a speedometer. It's unfortunate that most don't seem to bother.

Ride Safe,
Steve R.

My speedometer accuracy depends on how new the tires are. When they are new, it reads higher than the GPS and when they are worn out, it reads the same or lower than the GPS, depending on how far I wear them out...

Mine is off 4-6 mph depending on speed 80=78, 110=104 as compared to my zumo. I changed the out put sprocket tho. I bought the dakota calibrater, I will put it in this winter. Im thinking with this I can turn the speedo speed down and fool the cruise control to work over 85 mph's
