After riding into work for the last 2 days (38 and 43 degrees) I must admit that if I didn't have heated grips I would think twice before getting on the bike.(I ride 70 miles round trip)
Although I also have lower fairings and an 11 inch windshield, I think I could still ride without those 2 options without it really bothering me. The heated grips are keeping me going and I don't feel like a p*ss when I'm the only other bike I see on a cold morning. Just my opinion.
I don't have heated grip but I have dusted off the full face helmet and found my winter gloves.
Winter is not in my neck of the woods yet, but I know its on its way.
I too would suggest getting a heated jacket liner. Tourmaster makes a good one that you can get for about $162.00 and that include the controller(Tourmaster Synergy Jacket Liner). Gerbing & HD get about $200 just for the jacket liner and then you have to buy the controller.
+1 on the jacket liner
Heated seat and lowers. I get so warm my goggles fog up in the morning at a stop. I do not wear chaps as the cold on my legs cools me down, and that is in 30 degree weather, frost on the grass. Best money spent for winter riding

I just added the following for cold weather riding:
Heat Demons
Heated Jacket Liner
HD Soft Lowers
The heat Demons work GREAT!!! and are a plus when your ride extends into the evening and the temp chills a bit more than expected.
I was suprised with how much wind protection I got from the soft lowers. A ton cheaper than adding faring lowers and they go on/off in about 30 seconds. All I get is a little wind across the outer edge of my knees.
The heated liner is great without even being plugged in. I've only had the chance to try it plugged in once so far and at 49-50 deg. it kept me hot. I put my feet out on the highway pegs to keep some cool air moving up along my jacket.
As long as the roads are clear I'll probably ride most of the winter. I also have a 70 mile round trip to work.
Wife and I have the Gerbings jacket liners with duel controllers. She wears hers almost all the time when it's cool. I have the G3 gloves, with these old hands the are wonderful. I thinking about their outer pants now.
