I have the HD shorty antenna on mine. Seems to pick up stations pretty good. Don't notice much difference in reception. Much better than the $6 rubber duck antenna from the auto parts store.

You know, you can't really even see those long black antennas when the bike is moving down the road, hardly noticeable at all.

get the hidden one that goes in the fairing and gives the bike a clean look.

Here is a quote from the JM Corp web page:

"No other shorty-style antenna on the market today has been engineered to perform on your Harley, like this new antenna from J&M. (a slight reception distance loss on AM or FM, compared to the stock antennas, may be experienced, because of the significant reduction in overall antenna length)."

Man, you must be really tall. I would come more near bending over and getting poked in the eye by one of the short ones.

If this is for an FM radio, length is generally not an issue, as long as nothing is blocking the antenna. LH is right, if you have a CB cutting the antenna will damage the system because the antenna is tuned for its length. Even for the FM radio buy a short antenna designed for the radio.

I'm with Badblue-I bought a long marine antenna and looped it inside the fairing. I haven't noticed any loss of reception, can still pull in KSHE.

slight loss of signals from the local station here when I ride. Maybe 5 miles sooner than with the long ones. I have the J&M shorties. I love them.
